Growing Pains

As we enter the eighth week of the harness, two weeks post original end date, the harness is trying everyone's patience.  Whereas the harness was only a minor inconvenience to Colleen two months ago, it now an obstacle causing annoyance to everyone at home.  Colleen, now almost 4 months old, is becoming more mobile every day, and getting bigger by the moment.  While I am typing this, she is resting in the Ergo carrier, which works well for her splayed legs.  We no longer need the infant insert, since she is much heavier and can hold her head upright with no problems.

Due to Colleen's ever growing stature, Jason and I are constantly trying to make Colleen more comfortable.  We are allowed to adjust the straps on her harness to accommodate her lengthening limbs and torso, but I constantly worry whether or not I am doing it correctly.  According to the pediatric orthopedic, adjusting the harness does not take a rocket scientist.  We shall see.  One thing I suggest is if and when you choose to adjust the straps, be sure to mark on the harness where the straps go.  Use different colored pens as your child grows so you are not confused.  Also make sure you take stock of your little one's clothing.  Colleen is growing so quickly it is hard to keep up with her.  It is easy to think something fits because it does without the harness, but remember to always go a little larger, since the splayed frog leg position makes the onesies ride right up, and can be very uncomfortable for your little one.

I cherish the one hour reprieve Colleen gets daily.  It is so nice for that hour not to worry about whether or not she is comfortable.  I can hold her as close as I like, without the barrier of a pink velcro shell.  Two  more weeks has become my mantra.  Though there is a chance Colleen's hips may not be completely healed by her next sonogram, I remain optimistic that my "hip child" will be finished with this stage of her life.
